The Reds were heavily linked with a move to sign the Netherlands defender last month but the proposed deal fell through when Southampton reported Liverpool to the Premier League for an alleged illegal approach to the player.
Liverpool escaped punishment but then issued a statement saying that they had dropped their interest in signing the player this summer.
However, it has been suggested that Liverpool could yet still revive their attempts to sign the defender from the Saints ahead of next season.
But Liverpool boss Klopp was giving nothing away when quizzed about the possibility of the Reds making another move for the centre-half.
Asked if Liverpool could rekindle their interest, Klopp replied, according to the Liverpool Echo: “Am I allowed to talk about this? I am not!
“Pretty much everything I could say would be a mistake. You or your colleagues wrote everything about this a few weeks ago.
“I was in Iceland by the way when somebody told me this was in the newspaper.
“Nothing happened since then, all good so far, so I can’t say anything about this.”
Liverpool are preparing for a return to the Champions League next season after the Reds finished fourth in Klopp’s first full campaign in charge last term.
The Reds have already signed Dominic Solanke and Mohamed Salah so far this summer.
