The Portugese international’s future has been a source of speculation amid widespread reports that he wanted to quit Real Madrid earlier in the summer.
It remains to be seen where Ronaldo’s future lies but Manchester United were inevitably touted as a possible destination for the 32-year-old superstar.
However, Mourinho appears to have ruled out the possibility of Manchester United making a move to re-sign Ronaldo this summer by describing the chances of the Red Devils landing the Real Madrid star as “mission impossible”.
Speaking at his post-match news conference in LA on Saturday night, Mourinho said: “I am not going to get my club to waste time on players who are mission impossible.
“Ronaldo is such an important player for his club. A player of great economic power. We have not been able to find any reason that could have made us think that Ronaldo could leave.”
Ronaldo left Manchester United to sign for Real Madrid back in 2009 as he became the world’s most expensive footballer.
Manchester United are currently preparing for a return to the Champions League next season after Mourinho led the Red Devils to Europa League glory last term.
