The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move to sign the Croatia international for much of the summer as Jose Mourinho considers further bolstering his attacking options following the arrival of Romelu Lukaku last week.
However, Mourinho himself replied with “no idea” when asked if Manchester United were closing in on a deal to sign Perisic on Monday night.
Giggs reckons that Perisic’s proposed move to Manchester United could actually bring the best out of some of the Red Devils’ other attacking players.
Speaking to Sky Sports News about Perisic, Giggs said: “If he [Perisic] comes then the likes of Marcus Rashford, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Anthony Martial have to step up.
“It can sometimes be a boost for the players who are already there. If a signing comes in, it excites the fans and the players when you see quality come in through the door.”
Manchester United’s signing of Lukaku last week from Everton marked the Red Devils’ second recruit of the summer after they concluded a deal to sign defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica last month.
The Red Devils are preparing for a return to the Champions League next season after they secured Europa League glory, despite their sixth-placed finish in the Premier League.
