The 28-year-old’s future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent weeks since he and Mesut Ozil both entered into the final 12 months of their contracts.
Sanchez has been touted as a possible target for both Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain in recent months but the forward returned to Arsenal training this week.
It seems clear that Arsenal intend on making Sanchez at least see out the remaining year of his contract and keep him at the club next season.
Wenger was grilled about Sanchez’s contract situation at a news conference at Emirates Stadium on Thursday lunchtime.
And although the Frenchman refused to be drawn on specific details, he did say that Arsenal are still hoping to be able to extend his contract.
Wenger said: “That again we do not want to come out on that [talks about Sanchez’s future]. Every negotiation or not negotiation has to be a little bit secret.
“Society is very pushy but we have to resist a little bit as much as we can. We have a duty to inform people but to talk about some things, it’s not information any more.
“He will be here for this season and if we manage to do it for more seasons we’ll do it as well.”
Arsenal are currently preparing for their Community Shield clash against Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday as they look to win the first trophy available to them this season.
The north London side finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last term.
