The Reds had looked like they may be Premier League title contenders in the first part of last term but their form tailed off after the turn of the year and they ended up scrapping for a top-four finish.
Klopp successfully led the Merseyside outfit back into the Champions League as they sealed a fourth-placed finish in his first full campaign at Anfield.
Liverpool fans will now be hoping to see the Reds mount a genuine title challenge next season in Klopp’s second full season in charge at the club.
And Klopp feels that the Merseyside outfit will be able to challenge for the top-flight crown next season.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Mail, Klopp said: “Yes we will be playing for the Championship, that’s what we did last season when we finished fourth.
“You don’t start a season without ambition. I think we have our goals and I think we have a good team now.
“We had a bit of bad luck last season too so hopefully that will change and I think we have a strong team.
“Let’s hope we do very well. We have to work very hard to achieve what we want and we are doing that. So far it has been so good but we can do better and we need to show better (form).”
Liverpool have signed three players so far this summer as Klopp prepares his team for the 2017-18 campaign.
The Reds have brought in Mohamed Salah, Dominic Solanke and Andy Robertson ahead of the new season.
