Robbie Fowler believes that Liverpool will be genuine Premier League title contenders next season – but has warned that the top flight will be more competitive than ever.

The Reds are preparing for a return to the Champions League next term after Jurgen Klopp led his side to a fourth-placed finish in his first full season in charge.

Liverpool had looked like they may be one of the main contenders for the title last season in the first half of the campaign, but their form tailed off after the new year and they were left scrapping for a top-four finish.

Reds fans will be hoping to see their side mount a challenge for the Premier League title next season, while also getting to grips with a return to the Champions League.

And although former Liverpool striker Fowler is backing the Reds to be in the mix for the title, he warned that the competition will be stronger than ever.

Speaking on ITV4 after Liverpool’s loss to Atletico Madrid in Audi Cup on Wednesday evening, Folwer said:

“Regardless of who comes in, to win the Premier League comes more difficult every year.

“Chelsea won it last year and they’ve signed players. Man United and Arsenal have signed players. Man City have spent a lot of money.

“Liverpool have a chance of winning it but it does get more difficult every year.”

Liverpool have signed three players so far this summer as Klopp readies his team for his second full campaign in charge.

The Reds have brought in Dominic Solanke, Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson as the 2017-18 campaign draws ever nearer.
