Jose Mourinho has refused to be drawn into a war of words with Antonio Conte after the Chelsea manager warned his players that they must avoid a repeat of the Portuguese coach’s final season at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea back in December 2015, with the Blues languishing closer to the bottom of the table than the top after their title triumph in the 2014-15 campaign.

Conte was then brought in as Chelsea’s permanent new manager last summer and led the west London side to the Premier League title in his first campaign in charge at the club.

The Italian manager raised eyebrows last week when he warned his players to avoid a “Mourinho season” and make sure they don’t let their levels dip after their success last term.

Mourinho was asked for a direct response to Conte’s recent comments, but the Portuguese coach opted to dodge the question.

Asked about Conte’s comments, Mourinho told a news conference on Sunday, as quoted by Metro: “I don’t’ know. I could answer in many different ways but I’m not willing to lose my hair to speak about Antonio Conte.”

Manchester United and Chelsea are both preparing for returns to the Champions League next season as they look to challenge for trophies on four fronts.
