The Red Devils completed the signing of the Chelsea midfielder on Monday evening as Jose Mourinho was reunited with the 28-year-old.
The current Manchester United boss signed Matic in a £21m deal from Portuguese champions Benfica in the 2014 January transfer window.
Matic became a key part of the Chelsea side that won the Premier League and the EFL Cup in his first full season back at Stamford Bridge.
The defensive midfielder was a valuable member of Antonio Conte’s Chelsea team last term as the Italian won the Premier League crown in his debut season in England.
However, Conte signed AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko in a £39m deal last month to cast Matic’s future in doubt at Stamford Bridge.
And former Manchester United defender Higginbotham is thrilled to see Mourinho sign the holding midfielder to bolster the Red Devils team ahead of the new season.
Higginbotham wrote on Twitter: “Matic signing for @ManUtd is a very good one. Not just in terms of his own qualities but will bring out the best in others.”
– Nemanja Matic moved to Chelsea from Benfica in a £21m deal in 2014 after the Blues had been sold the Serbia star to the Portuguese club in 2011.
– The holding midfielder was a key of Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea side that won the Premier League and the EFL Cup in 2014-15.
– Matic has scored seven goals in 151 appearances in all competitions during a three-and-a-half year stay at Stamford Bridge.
– The 28-year-old was part of the Chelsea squad that won the FA Cup in 2009 under Guus Hiddink.
