Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano has ruled out moves for Atlético Madrid striker Radamel Falcao and Santos forward Neymar this summer.

The Citizens, who are currently without a manager following Roberto Mancini’s sacking, were believed to be competing with Chelsea and Manchester United for Falcao’s signature.

The one-time Premier League champions were also reported to be interested in Brazil youngster Neymar, but Soriano says City aren’t weighing up moves for either of the forwards.

“Neymar and Falcao? [These reports are] false, they have never been on our agenda,” Soriano told Tuttomercatoweb.com.

With City failing to mount a successful defence of their Premier League crown, the Citizens are expected to strengthen their squad in the summer, while showing bit-part squad members the exit door.

However, Soriano moved to rubbish reports City striker Sergio Aguero could leave the Eastlands outfit for Real Madrid at the end of the season.

“The first thing I want to emphasise is that we have never thought of selling Aguero. El Kun will be happy to stay with us this year,” Soriano added.

Brendan Rodgers believes Andy Carroll’s future will be resolved quickly, with West Ham United hoping to land the Liverpool striker on a permanent deal.

The England international was a key part of Sam Allardyce’s Hammers side as they secured a 10th-place finish in the Premier League this term.

Carroll scored seven goals in 23 top-flight appearances after joining on a season-long loan, and West Ham are keen to secure the forward’s return to Upton Park.

Rodgers has held talks with the 24-year-old in recent days, and the Liverpool manager envisages the forward’s Reds future to be resolved imminently.

“It was just a general conversation in terms of the experience of getting out and playing,” Rodgers told the Guardian. “He enjoyed that apart from the injury.

“At the start of the season the whole thing was about going and getting games because he wasn’t going to be a starter here. We will talk again with him and the club to see how it all evolves. It’s one of those situations where it will probably be resolved a lot quicker than that for both parties.”

Carroll has scored 11 goals in 58 appearances for Liverpool after completing a club-record £35m switch to the Reds from Newcastle United in January 2011.

Stevan Jovetic is not interested in a move to Arsenal and wants to stay in Italy, according to the Fiorentina midfielder’s agent Fali Ramadani.

The Montenegro international has been heavily linked with a move to the Gunners, who are looking to strengthen their squad after edging to a fourth-place finish this season.

Jovetic, who is believed to be valued at around £24.5m by La Viola, has scored 13 goals and made five assists in 31 Serie A appearances – but is not looking to leave Italy.

“Stevan prefers to stay in Italy rather than move away,” said Jovetic’s agent Ramadani.

On Wednesday, Fiorentina sporting director Daniel Prade insisted the club have not been in contact with Arsenal over a possible deal for Jovetic.

“The way I see it, this interest [in Jovetic] is non-existent,” Prade told Rai Sport.

“I have not had any contact with them at all. I don’t think Arsène Wenger is interested in the boy.”

Newly-crowned Serie A champions Juventus are believed to be leading the race to sign the Montenegro star in the summer transfer window.

Sergio Ramos has described Gareth Bale as a “Real Madrid-quality signing” amid growing uncertainty surrounding the forward’s Tottenham future.

The 23-year-old’s wonder-strike against Sunderland on Sunday was not enough for Spurs as Arsenal pipped their north London rivals to the final Champions League spot.

Bale scored 21 Premier League goals this season, scooping the PFA player of the year award for his performances, and Ramos backed Madrid’s pursuit of the Wales international.

“Gareth Bale is a Real Madrid-quality signing,” Ramos told the Sun.

“He has had an exceptional season. He can punish any team in the world and has the footballing qualities we look for in Madrid.

“I am sure Madrid will not be the only team that want to sign him, but he is the right mould for us.”

On Wednesday, Bale indicated that despite being disappointed with Tottenham’s failure to finish in the top four, he was ready to stay at White Hart Lane.

“We fought hard this season, the team and the manager have been great,” Bale added. “We have got the record points for the club in the Premier League,” Bale told the club’s website.

“That would normally be enough to qualify for the Champions League, but it’s not meant to be again.

“It’s disappointing, but we will pick ourselves up again.

“We will just have to regroup this season and give it another go.”

The 23-year-old has been linked with a transfer away from White Hart Lane after Spurs were agonisingly pipped to a fourth-place finish by local rivals Arsenal on the final day of the season.

PFA player of the year Bale, who scored 21 league goals for the north Londoners during the season, has been touted as a target for Real Madrid and Manchester United.

However, former Tottenham manager Hoddle expects to see the talismanic Welshman stay at the club and improve yet further next season.

“I personally believe Bale will want to stay, irrespective of the club missing out on the Champions League. He’s a great player and I think it would be a good thing for him to do,” Hoddle told GiveMeFootball.

“It would obviously be a good thing for Spurs as well. He makes them a better team, no doubt about it, and can get even better next season.”

Diego Simeone says he wouldn’t hold a grudge against Radamel Falcao if the striker sought a new challenge this summer – but would prefer the Colombian to stay at Atlético Madrid.

The South American forward has been heavily linked with a move to Ligue 2 champions Monaco in recent weeks, while Chelsea and Manchester United are both reportedly interested in the striker.

Falcao has been in scintillating form for Atlético, scoring 28 goals in 33 La Liga appearances, and also playing a key role in their Copa del Rey triumph, culminating in a extra-time victory over Real Madrid in the final last Friday.

With the 26-year-old’s future still very much up in the air with two La Liga games remaining, Simeone says he would hold no grudges if the former Porto man decided to take the next step in his career at the end of the season.

“I don’t know anything official yet. I have known him since he was a child and if he feels that he has to take a step to improve, I’m happy for him. If he stays with us, I’ll be even happier,” Simeone told reporters after Atlético’s 2-0 friendly win against a Singapore selection side.

Falcao has scored an impressive 70 goals in 90 appearances for Atlético after completing a €40m (£34m) from Porto to the Spanish capital, winning the Copa del Rey, Europa League and Uefa Super Cup.

Brazilian star Neymar is believed to have decided on a move to Barcelona – according to Santos vice-president Odilio Rodrigues – thus ending years of speculation.

The 21-year-old has courted the cream of European football for the last three years as he moved the through the club ranks at Santos.

But, until now, the striker has remained tight-lipped on who his next employers will be.

“Neymar has told us he wants to sign for Barcelona,” club official Rodrigues told Ser Esports.

“There are other proposals but he has preferences for Barca. There is no official Madrid proposal for Neymar but we know that this offer will come.

“We held conversations in Spain with the Barca board of directors and there are on-going talks but nothing has been decided.

Rodrigues even admitted that an offer had been made for the temperamental star, but the sum didn’t match Santos’ valuation.

“The negotiations need to continue because the first bid we were offered was not enough,” he added.

“We know that Madrid had a bid and will be presenting it soon, but I haven’t talked to (club president) Florentino Perez.

“We know that the athlete’s opinion is important. What we have to do is to find a way to unify the best offer with the player’s interest.”

Luiz Felipe Scolari, the Brazil manager, believes the prodigy has the mindset to match his obvious footballing talent.

“He is an example to follow as a sportsman,” Scolari said to Canal+.

“I have spoken to Sandro Rosell (Barcelona FC President) about how he behaves on the training pitch and about his personality and he really is an example to follow.

“Barcelona are clearly leading the race for his signature. He would be a great signing for Barcelona.

“He would be an idol for the fans next season alongside Lionel Messi.”

Radamel Falcao has moved once again to quell rumours of an imminent move away from Atlético Madrid.

The Colombian forward has been in sensational form for his club, notching 28 goals in 33 La Liga games this season.

His scoring return has meant he has been linked with a move away from the Vicente Calderón to Manchester City and Chelsea – as well as newly-promoted French Ligue 1 club, Monaco.

But the former Porto star, 27, believes he will only move should his club hierarchy decide to sell.

“I haven’t thought about a move too much,” Falcao told Sky Sports News. “The reality is that I have three years left on my contract with Atlético.

“It’s true that last season during the summer there was a lot of speculation with clubs being named as a possible destination, but the truth is that I’ve not thought about it.

“Of course, it depends on what the financial needs of my club are and what sort of efforts Atlético make to keep me.

“I’ve been trying not to think too much about the rumours of clubs being linked with me.

“Instead, I’ve been focusing on my objectives as a player.”

Atlético Madrid have two remaining fixtures in their La Liga campaign against RCD Mallorca and Real Zaragoza.

Jürgen Klopp believes Robert Lewandowski will stay at Borussia Dortmund beyond the summer despite interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

The Dortmund boss is already braced to lose Mario Götze – who has been ruled out of Saturday’s Champions League final with a hamstring injury – to bitter rivals Bayern in the summer.

The 24-year-old striker, who scored four goals in their semi-final first-leg triumph against Real Madrid, is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2013/14 campaign.

With reports suggesting the Poland international could leave this summer, Klopp defiantly insisted Lewandowski will be at the Champions League finalists next season.

“There is no topic of Lewandowski’s transfer right now,” Klopp told Polish newspaper Przeglad Sportowy.

“The rest of the team and I talk and think only about the final right now.

“My conclusion is that Robert is not leaving Borussia, and he will play here for the next season and I will be able to use him. That is why I don’t want to even think about to which club he may fit better.”

Klopp singled out another of Dortmund’s Poland stars Lukasz Piszczek for special praise ahead of the showpiece at Wembley this weekend.

“All of my Polish players did their best and played a great part in our success, but the greatest and the best season was had by Lukasz Piszczek,” he added.

“I know only a few players that with his health problems could keep such high level.”
