Totti on form as Atalanta call time on Gregucci

Francesco TottiReviews of all this weekend's action in Serie A

Bari 4 – 1 Atalanta

This heavy defeat at the San Nicola spelt the end for Atalanta coach Angelo Gregucci who leaves the Bergamo club firmly rooted to the bottom of the table. Former Bari tactician Antonio Conte takes over the reigns as the Nerazzurri look to bounce back from an awful start that has seen them score just one goal in four matches.

Bari cement their place mid way in the table after their first win of the campaign. The hosts were three up by half-time thanks to goals from Emanuel Rivas, Paulo Barreto and Edgar Alvarez. On 61 minutes Massimo Donati hit a fourth whilst six minutes from time, Giampaolo Bellini got a consolation for the visitors.

Parma 1 – 0 Palermo

More controversy, this time at the Ennio Tardini as Palermo were defeated by Parma. Former fans favourite Cristian Zaccardo got the winner after 17 minutes. Palermo coach Walter Zenga was furious at the conclusion of the game as he felt his side had been denied a clear penalty in the second half but this just masked his side’s inability to find the target. Zenga is under pressure and the midweek home game against Roma could be a pivotal one in his team’s season.

Milan 1 – 0 Bologna

The Rossoneri followed up their fantastic result in the Champions League with a scrappy home win over Bologna. Clarence Seedorf continued his good form scoring the game’s only goal 15 minutes from time. The Rossoblu are looking like relegation candidates at the moment with just two points from their opening four fixtures.

Catania 1 – 1 Lazio

The Sicilians picked up their first point of the season with a home draw against Lazio. Jorge Martinez gave them the lead after just 12 minutes but the evergreen Julio Cruz levelled for the visitors 12 minutes into the second half, a point for each a fair result.

Roma 3 – 1 Fiorentina

Claudio Ranieri got his second consecutive league win in charge of the Giallorossi with this surprise home win over Fiorentina. Francesco Totti was again inspirational as he converted a penalty on 27 minutes, doubled his side’s advantage six minutes later and then was involved in a wonderful team goal that started and finished with Daniele De Rossi who headed in from close range.

The Viola were shocking and Claudio Prandelli has some serious thinking to do before Wednesday night’s game against league leaders Sampdoria.
