Genoa 2 – 2 Juventus

Genoa ended Juventus’ 100 per cent start to the Serie A season, earning a 2-2 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Thursday night.

The result sees Juventus slip down to second in the Italian league on goal difference, with Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan in pole position.

The bianconeri took the lead early on through Vincenzo Iaquinta after a low cross was left by Camoronesi, allowing the ball to run through to the 29-year-old, who smashed a fierce low shot to the goalkeeper’s left from outside the box.

But Genoa levelled proceedings after 30 minutes when Giandomenico Mesto clinically headed home Giuseppe Sculli’s perfectly-weighted cross.

In the second half Juventus had chances again to take the lead, the most notable falling to goalscorer Iaquinta who failed to beat Marco Amelia.

Minutes later Sculli tested Buffon with a fierce shot from 25 yards that the keeper was only able to parry.

Fifteen minutes from time, Genoa took the lead after Mesto crossed for Hernan Crespo to head home from close range. Just minutes earlier, Juventus had what appeared to be a perfectly legitimate goal disallowed for offside.

Giorgio Chiellini then had the ball in the back of the net minutes after Genoa took the lead, but again the linesman’s flag was up.

On 85 minutes it was substitute David Trezeguet who snatched a point for the visitors when he headed home Fabio Grosso’s free-kick.

This week’s other Serie A results:
Atalanta 0-0 Catania
Bari 0-1 Cagliari
Bologna 2-0 Livorno
Fiorentina 2-0 Sampdoria
Inter Milan 3-1 Napoli
Lazio 1-2 Parma
Palermo 3-3 AS Roma
Siena 0-0 Chievo
Udinese 1-0 AC Milan
