Spurs"I didn't hesitate in coming here," says Spurs defender.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Sebastien Bassong has revealed that his his decision to make the switch from Newcastle to north London was an easy one.

Speaking to Hotspur Magazine, the 23-year-old went on to say that the White Hart Lane club’s reputation was a pivotal factor in his transfer.

“Tottenham Hotspur is a really famous team in Europe and indeed across the world, so everybody knows the players,” he told Hotspur Magazine.

“The manager himself is also famous – a good leader with a good reputation. That is why I didn’t hesitate in coming here.”

The former Newcastle player made an emphatic start to his career in north London, scoring the winning goal against Liverpool on his debut.

“It was the perfect debut for my first official game with Spurs,” he continued.

“It was an important win so all the players were happy, not just me.

“I know from experience how important it is to start winning from day one in the Premier League because it is crucial for the confidence of the team.

“Having achieved that we could start looking forward.”

The 6 ft 2 defender, who started his career at Ligue 1 side FC Metz, also believes that the Premier League is much more physical than its French counterpart.

“The pace is really different here – so much faster, and it is more physical here in England.

“It is also about the wonderful atmosphere in the stadiums, which is very different to France.

“I love to play against guys like Fernando Torres, as I did on the opening day. You learn so much about how to defend against such world-class individuals.”
