League title is key to consistency, says Lampard
Frank Lampard believes Chelsea should focus on winning the Premier League ahead of all other competitions in order to re-establish the Blues as the number one force in English football.
The FA Cup holders demolished Watford 5-0 on Sunday to progress to the fourth round of the competition, but the English midfielder says the Stamford Bridge club’s priority should be to regain the Premier League title.
“The Champions League is definitely something I want to win at least once in my career, but for me the League is where we need to get the consistency levels we had a few years ago,” Lampard told Sky Sports magazine.
“We were dominant for two years and now Manchester United have been playing fantastically for three years.”
Chelsea last won the Premier League title in 2005-06 under Jose Mourinho and Lampard went on to reveal his desire to repeat the achievement this year.
“There’s a real feeling between the players that we want to go that one step further and get the consistency in the League back and then push for the Champions League,” he continued.
The west London club currently sit two points clear at the top of the Premier League table and travel to Hull in their next fixture on Saturday.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side were handed an away test against Championship side Preston in the FA Cup fourth round draw.
