Babel left out of Liverpool squad to face Stoke
Ryan Babel has revealed his omission from the Liverpool squad to face Stoke City on Saturday via social networking website Twitter, according to reports.
The 23-year-old is reported to have said: “I’ve got some disappointing news, I am not travelling to Stoke. The Boss left me out the squad. No explanation.”
The news would suggest that the Dutch winger is edging closer to a move away from Anfield, with Reds boss Rafael Benitez opting to axe the player despite injuries to Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard and Yossi Benayoun.
Babel, who joined Liverpool in 2007 for a fee of £11.7m, has been linked with a move away from Liverpool during the January transfer window, despite Benitez insisting the player is not for sale.
The Anfield club reportedly turned down an £8m bid from Birmingham City for the winger.
Liverpool travel to Stoke in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off 12 points behind league leaders Chelsea and on the back of a shock FA Cup third-round exit against Reading at Anfield in midweek.
