Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has moved to dispel rumours of a rift between himself and the coaching staff at the club describing the speculation as a product of ‘unbelievable imagination’.

The player insisted that there was no fall out with coach Mauricio Pellegrino. The argument was reported to have occurred during half time in Liverpool’s F.A. Cup 4th round match against Reading, but the player maintains that it is fiction.

Gerrard revealed that he was on the physio’s table during the break receiving treatment for a knock which he had picked up in the first half.

Furthermore Gerrard reaffirmed his commitment to the club on the back of recent suggestions that he is considering a move away in the summer, with Inter Milan and Real Madrid the names most mentioned. He remains dedicated to steering Liverpool back into fourth spot.

Speaking out against the rumours Gerrard said: “Nothing happened. That is an absolute fact. If anyone thinks this nonsense unsettles either me or the club they’re mistaken. If anything it has brought everyone even closer together because we’ve all had a good laugh about it.”

He also referred to the transfer talk saying: “All the stories about me leaving are unfounded. The fans can be assured that I’m doing all I can to get back to top form and help Liverpool finish the season on a high.”

Liverpool face Tottenham Hotspur tonight in a must-win game for Rafael Benitez should he harbour any ambitions of qualifying for next year’s Champions League.
