Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan have completed a domestic double following a 1-0 victory away at Siena to secure the Serie A title.

Diego Milito scored the crucial goal against the relegated Siena, leaving Mourinho’s side one match away from claiming a terrific treble.

Two points were all that separated Inter and Roma going into the final round of fixtures meaning Mourinho’s side needed a victory to ensure the destination of the title remained in their own hands.

Claudio Ranieri’s Roma took a first half lead against Chievo but Milito’s second half strike settled the nerves of the reigning champions in Siena.

The turning point in the title race was undoubtedly Roma’s defeat to Sampdoria three weeks ago which handed the impetus back to their Milan rivals.

Inter have now retained the Serie A title for a fifth successive year and this season’s triumph marks Jose Mourinho’s second League title at the San Siro.

Mourinho and his staff will now prepare their side for next weekend’s Champions League final against German giants Bayern Munich, who are also chasing an historic treble.

The Italian side have not won the European Cup since 1965 and have been overshadowed by the European success of bitter rivals AC Milan in recent years.

Elsewhere in Serie A, Sampdoria secured their place in next season’s Champions League after Gianpaolo Pazzini scored the only goal to see off Palermo.
