Jack Rodwell agrees new long-term Everton contract
Jack Rodwell has agreed a new five-year contract at Everton, quelling the speculation linking the 19-year-old with a move to Old Trafford.
Rodwell, who made his Goodison Park debut aged 16, had signed a new five-year contract last February but the Merseyside club offered the midfielder an improved deal following an impressive season.
The English teenager, who is the nephew of former Blackpool winger Tony Rodwell, had previously been linked with a move to Manchester United, but he insists his future lies at Goodison Park.
“It is flattering, obviously, because to be linked with clubs like United is an honour,” he said. “But I’m perfectly happy to be here and it is a great club.”
Rodwell has made 47 Premier League appearances for the Toffees and has featured for his country at both U19 and U21 level.
“It’s a brilliant day for me,” Rodwell told BBC Radio Merseyside. “I’ve been at this club for a long time now and and signing a new five-year deal is amazing and a good feeling.”
“To play for them is an honour and to get this contract is even better.”
David Moyes’ Everton just missed out on qualification for next season’s Europa League after finishing eighth in the Premier League.
