Reports had suggested that the Milan striker had flown to England in order to hold talks with an English club, with Manchester rivals City and United both touted as potential destinations for the 26-year-old.
But according to reports in Il Corriere dello Sport the former PSV Eindhoven front man is ready to begin negotiations with Liverpool.
Should the Reds secure Huntelaar’s services it would make him the fourth major signing of the summer at Anfield following the arrivals of Joe Cole, Milan Jovanović and Danny Wilson.
It is believed AC Milan will be looking to bring Dutch winger Ryan Babel to the San Siro as a part of the deal after Babel suffered a poor season at Anfield and failed to hold down a place in Rafael BenÃÂtez’s first-team squad.
AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri helped fuel the rumours after telling the Italian press “Huntelaar, for now, is a Milan player,”
Meanwhile Manchester City have said they have had no approach for full-back Wayne Bridge after the 29-year-old was linked with a move to Anfield following the departure of Emiliano Insua to Fiorentina.
Reports suggest Bridge is worried about his chances of first-team football at Eastlands after City opened negotiations with Lazio defender Alexander Kolarov.
But the announcement by City that Liverpool have yet to make a formal approach would suggest that the Anfield club could be weighing up moving for other potential targets including Wigan full-back Maynor Figueroa.
