Cristiano Ronaldo sets new Facebook fan record

Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first non-American to see his Facebook page surpass 10 million fans.

The Real Madrid superstar, who was recently handed the number seven shirt at the Bernabéu, described reaching the milestone as an “honour”.

“I would like to thank all of my fans for the support on Facebook,” the 25-year-old wrote on his Facebook page. “Today we crossed 10 million. It is an honor to share this with you all.”

With over 15 million supporters, American pop star Lady GaGa holds the individual record for the most fans on the popular social networking website.

And David Beckham is the closest British contender with over 3.6 million supporters.
