Manchester United suffer Antonio Valencia setback
Sir Alex Ferguson fears Antonio Valencia will be out of action for a “long time” after the winger was stretchered off with an ankle injury during Manchester United’s 0-0 draw with Rangers at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
Valenica, 25, sustained the injury as the result of a clash with Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot, who was clearly perturbed by the nature of the former Wigan Athletic star’s visibly severe knock.
The Ecuadorian international, who underwent ankle surgery during the summer, has suffered a suspected broken ankle and looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
“He has gone to hospital,” said Ferguson after the Champions League clash. “It looks as if it is a dislocation and a fracture. It’s a bad one, it will keep him out for a long time. He seemed to dig his toe in the turf.”
