Kimi Räikkönen’s manager has confirmed he is in talks with Renault over a possible return to Formula 1 for the 2007 world champion.

Steve Robertson made contact with Renault team principal Eric Boullier at the Belgian Grand Prix last month, but only to assess the option of a return, with no concrete offer on the table.

Renault are also considering their options for 2011 with only Robert Kubica confirmed, and several drivers under consideration for the second seat, including current driver Vitaly Petrov.

Räikkönen is one of the names being mentioned, and Robertson told Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat: “It’s true, I spoke with Boullier. We want to explore all the possible options for next year. Kimi and I asked Renault what is the situation.

“There are all sorts of rumours. I’ve even heard that Kimi could go to NASCAR, but that is definitely not an option.”

Räikkönen is competing in the World Rally Championship for the Red Bull backed Citroën Junior Team this year after failing to secure an F1 drive following Ferrari’s decision to release him, with his wages supplemented by the Scuderia.
