Manchester United’s Michael Carrick insists he wants to end his career at Old Trafford despite recent speculation over his future.

A number of sources suggested that newly-appointed Aston Villa manager Gerard Houiller is eager to sign the former Tottenham playmaker to bolster his midfield.

The 29-year-old, who has two years left on his current contract at Old Trafford, has struggled to retain a regular starting place in Sir Alex Ferguson’s side this season but insists he has never been tempted by a move away.

“I have seen some stories suggesting I’d be leaving last summer but I take no notice. It’s part of the game,” said Carrick.

“I have never thought I was on my way out of United, not for one minute. It has never entered my mind. And neither has the manager said anything to me.”

Carrick, who has made 191 appearances for United but has only featured three times so far this season, says he still feels very much part of the Red Devils’ success.

“This is a great place to be and results like the one against Valencia make it all worthwhile when you play a part in something like that.

He added: “I have the rest of this season and next season left on my contract and I would like to stay here for the rest of my career.”
