Chiliboy Ralepelle and Bjorn Basson fail drug tests
South African prop Chiliboy Ralepelle and winger Bjorn Basson have been suspended and sent home from their side’s tour of the UK and Ireland for failing a drugs test.
The random screening, administered by the organisers of the November test matches, revealed the banned stimulant methylhexaneamine to be in both of their systems.
Basson was ready to return to action following an ankle injury sustained against Wales but both players have now been provisionally suspended by the South African Rugby Union, although both have the right to have their ‘B’ samples tested.
The Springboks have won both of the tour games so far, including a tense two point victory over Ireland, and face Scotland at Murrayfield on Saturday.
