Balotelli, 20, hit the headlines again this week when he claimed Wayne Rooney is not even the best striker in Manchester – and that City’s striking line-up, including himself, Carlos Tévez and Edin Dzeko is the best in the world.
In December the former Inter Milan striker had incensed Arsenal fans when he claimed not to have heard of English youngster Jack Wilshere after beating the midfielder to an award for the best young player in Europe.
Now, former Manchester United winger Ronaldo has told the Italy international to cool the talk about his rivals and instead concentrate on scoring goals for Roberto Mancini’s side.
“Mario is a good player, but he has to talk less and play more,” said Ronaldo. “In the Premier League, if you know how to listen and want to learn, you can become a great player. I hope he does it.”
The Real Madrid attacker added: “But today he puts too many other things in front of his profession and that isn’t alright.”
Ronaldo’s comments come after City boss Mancini last month asked his striker to back up his confident claims by proving himself on the pitch.
“It is good when a player has confidence in himself,” Mancini said. “Mario Balotelli has everything you need to be one of the best players in the world. But he must improve and he must show it. Only if you play well in every game can you say these things. It depends on him.”
