Paul di Resta set to join Adrian Sutil at Force India for 2011
The 24-year-old Scot is set to join Adrian Sutil in Indian team's second car for next year
Paul di Resta will join Adrian Sutil in Force India’s second car for 2011, according to reports in Germany.
The 24-year-old Scot was the Indian team’s reserve and test driver during 2010, making appearances in Friday testing throughout the season.
Di Resta impressed during free practice, and as well as his commitments with Force India, won the 2010 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters championship by four points from HWA (AMG Mercedes) team-mate and McLaren third driver Gary Paffett.
The team are expected to confirm their 2011 line up soon and are understood to be keeping Sutil, but releasing Vitantonio Liuzzi from his contract, with former Williams driver Nico Hülkenberg to join as the new third driver, taking part in Friday tests.
Hülkenberg had been lined up for a move to McLaren as their third driver, according to the German’s manager Willi Weber.
“I actually wanted Nico to be the third driver at McLaren,” said Weber. “But team boss Martin Whitmarsh feared that it would be seen as a threat to Jenson Button and he didn’t want to disrupt the team’s harmony as they hunt for the 2011 Championship.”
Force India are expected to make an official announcement within the next week.
