West Ham have completed the signing of Wayne Bridge on loan from Manchester City until the end of the season.

Bridge, 30, was at Upton Park on Tuesday night to see the Hammers’ 2-1 League Cup semi-final victory over Birmingham.

The full-back, who has fallen out of favour at Manchester City after dropping down the pecking order behind Aleksandar Kolarov and Joleon Lescott at left-back, has set his sights on helping the Hammers avoid the drop.

“It will be great to play a part in helping keep West Ham in the Premier League,” said Bridge. “It would be a big achievement.”

Meanwhile, Avram Grant has hit out at the press over the constant speculation surrounding his future. Recent rumours have suggested that the Israeli is close to being shown the door at Upton Park with the Hammers rooted firmly to the bottom of the Premier League.

When asked about his future, Grant responded: “You keep asking me, but I am not the man to ask. I am responsible for only one thing; if I don’t like it here, I can go to the owner and tell him.

“I have lived with rumours from day one. It doesn’t matter. I am doing my job. It would be much easier if there were no rumours, like at other clubs. There are seven clubs in our position, more or less, but only me that you ask.”
