Premier League is a two-horse race, says Laurent Koscielny

The 25-year-old centre-half believes the title race is between Arsenal and Manchester United

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny is eager to beat Manchester United to the Premier League title – and claims it is now a two-horse race between the gunners and Sir Alex Ferguson’s men.

The north Londoners stayed within five points of leaders United after a 2-1 victory over Everton on Tuesday and Koscielny believes Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham have all fallen too far behind the top two to be in with a chance of winning this year’s crown.

“It looks like we are the last challengers to United,” said Koscielny. “We have got more points than Manchester City, Chelsea and the others.

“We need to focus on our game, keep winning, keep picking up points and maybe United will lose games at some point. Anything can happen in this league. That’s why we must keep working hard together. We will keep fighting.”

The 25-year-old French defender added: “It’s important we keep our defence strong. If we don’t concede, we will always make chances to score ourselves.”

Koscielny joined Arsenal from Lorient for £8.4m last summer and the uncapped French centre-half has featured regularly for Arsene Wenger’s side following the injury of Thomas Vermaelen and the departure of William Gallas.

And Koscielny believes it has helped him to swiftly adapt to the rigours of the Premier League. He said: “It wasn’t easy for me but I feel stronger. I definitely feel like a better player than when I arrived here. In the last two months I have felt I’ve improved a lot.”
