Profile: Martin Atkinson

With only two years experience officiating at Conference level, Atkinson was appointed to referee his first Premier League match in April 2005, taking charge of a 3-0 home victory for Manchester City against Birmingham City.

Atkinson issued only eight red cards in 102 matches, an average of less than 0.08 per game in the seasons between 2003-2006

In 2006, Atkinson was added to the list of Fifa referees and he has recently been appointed to ref the FA Cup final on 14 May between Manchester City and Stoke City.
