Edinson Cavani bagged a hat-trick as Napoli mounted a dramatic comeback to beat Lazio 4-3 and leapfrog Internazionale in the Serie A table.

The win keeps Napoli’s title ambitions alive and moves the Southerners to within three points of leaders AC Milan, two points clear of defending champions Inter.

Lazio stormed into a 2-0 lead courtesy of strikes from Stefano Mauri and Andre Dias, but Napoli fought back through second-half goals from Andrea Dossena and Cavani.

At 2-2 it looked as if Napoli would go on to claim victory as they surged forward, but Lazio took the lead again when Salvatore Aronica turned the ball into his own net.

Uruguay forward Cavani was Napoli’s hero after he won a 82nd-minute penalty and duly converted from the spot to level the match at 3-3.

And Cavani then sent the Napoli fan in Stadio San Paolo wild when he scored the winner one minute from time.

Man of the match Cavani, on loan from Palermo, insists Napoli will fight for every point in their remaining seven games as they bid to win their first Scudetto in 21 years.

“Let us enjoy this victory,” said the 24-year-old, who has now scored 25 league goals this season. “Our attitude remains the same: give 100 per cent in every game for this city and this team.

“We knew Lazio were a great side, so now we must enjoy the moment and carry on like this.”
