Five of the best Premier League goals of the season
We pick out five of our favourite goals from the 2010-2011 Barclays Premier League campaign
After the 2010-11 Premier League season drew to a close on Sunday, we have a look back at our five favourite goals of the campaign.
1) Wayne Rooney v Manchester City
Rooney put a difficult start to the season behind him for good when he grabbed the winner against United’s city rivals with an acrobatic bicycle kick, sending Nani’s floated cross flying past Joe Hart.
2) Gareth Bale v Stoke City
PFA Player of the Year Bale began the season in style back in August when he expertly fired in Aaron Lennon’s teasing cross across goal and into the far corner to help Harry Redknapp’s men seal a 2-1 win.
3) Dimitar Berbatov v Liverpool
The Bulgarian forward, who finished the season as the joint top scorer in the Premier League, completed a brilliant hat-trick against United’s arch-rivals by controlling Nani’s cross before firing an overhead kick past Pepe Reina.
4) Raul Meireles v Wolverhampton Wanderers
Liverpool’s Portuguese midfielder was on hand to capitalise on a poor Wolves clearance and fire a rasping 25-yard volley to help Liverpool earn their first win under new boss Kenny Dalglish.
5) Cheik Tiote v Arsenal
In what proved to be a contender for game of the season, Newcastle’s Ivory Coast international smashed home a 35-yard screamer to earn Alan Pardew’s men a point after they battled back from 4-0 down at half time to earn a 4-4 draw.
