McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton set the pace in first practice for Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza ahead of his team-mate Jenson Button.

Hamilton, who crashed out of the Belgian Grand Prix two weeks ago, was 0.921 seconds faster than Button, while defending world champion Sebastian Vettel was third quickest, 1.366 seconds off the pace.

Red Bull’s Mark Webber was fourth, while Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso – stuck in the pits after cutting one of his tyres – ended up almost three seconds adrift in seventh.
