Ballots needed for key London 2012 Paralympics tickets
Sports including track cycling and wheelchair tennis all require ballots as demand outstrips supply
In-demand sessions at next year’s Paralympics are already oversubscribed and will now be decided by public ballot – a first for the event.
Sports including track cycling, swimming, wheelchair rugby and wheelchair tennis will all require ballots to allocate tickets while the opening and closing ceremony tickets, at the lowest price of £20.12, are also oversubscribed.
Payment for Paralympic tickets will be taken by 31st October 2011, with a notification of whether applications have been successful to be sent by 18th November 2011.
Organisers Locog are confident they will sell all the two million tickets available for the Games, with over 300 sessions scheduled in 20 sports.
It is expected tickets not sold in the initial sales window, in which 1.5 million tickets were available, will go on general sale in the coming months.
“We are very happy with how the application process went,” said a Locog spokesman.
“Interest in Paralympic Games tickets has been excellent and we will be running ballots across several sessions ““ which a year out from the Paralympic Games is unheard of.
“The system remained robust throughout the process and we will now go about processing applications to begin allocating tickets.”
