Arsène Wenger tells Arsenal to make home form count
Manager wants his side to concentrate on maintaining a good run at The Emirates as they seek to improve
Arsène Wenger wants Arsenal to use their home form to help his side bounce back from a disappointing start to the season.
The Gunners have won two of their three league games at The Emirates, but have suffered defeats by Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers and north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on their travels.
Now, Wenger wants his players to focus on stringing together series of home wins and close the gap on their top-four rivals, starting with victory over Sunderland on Sunday.
“Our home form is quite good so we just have to continue that at the moment,” said Wenger.
“We have been stable defensively at home but Sunderland is a team that has good potential if you look at their players. We had a disappointing result at Tottenham but we have to keep belief in what we do and the way we do it.”
And the Arsenal boss still believes qualification for next year’s Champions League is a realistic target for his side, despite having already succumbed to four defeats this term.
“I don’t know how many games we can afford to lose, that depends not only on us but the other teams,” he said.
“We need to be consistent, that is what we need. Nobody can tell you today how many games you can lose to be in the top four, but you need to be consistent with positive results. We know that, and that is what we want to achieve in the next games.”
