Eric Abidal ‘flattered’ by PSG interest as Barça talks continue
French defender says he is flattered to be attracting interest from some of Europe's top clubs
Barcelona defender Eric Abidal admits he is “flattered” by the reported interest from some of Europe’s top clubs as negotiations over an extension to his current deal at the Nou Camp continue.
The 32-year-old Frenchman, who recently announced he is confident he would extend his stay with the European champions, has revealed that a number of clubs have expressed an interest in securing his signature.
And although Abidal is hopeful he will sign a new deal to keep him with Barcelona, he admits the “door is open” for a move away if an agreement is not reached before his contract expires in the summer.
“There are some clubs interested, like Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Manchester City,” he told RMC Sport.
“At the moment there are no concrete offers. I can’t say any more. I have so much respect for Barça but if I don’t reach an agreement, the door is open.”
He added: “Paris are a big European club, a big club in the French championship. It’s extremely flattering that PSG are interested.
“Right now it’s not a decision I would take all on my own. The family is also important. We have discussed it. We will leave the door open, especially to the big clubs.”
