José Mourinho has been handed a two-match touchline ban by the Spanish football federation for the part he played in the mass brawl that marred the end of the Spanish Super Cup clash against Barcelona in August.

The Real Madrid manager appeared to poke his finger into the eye of Barça assistant Tito Vilanova, who has been given a one-match ban for his involvement after he reacted by striking Mourinho on the side of the head.

Both Mourinho and Vilanova have been handed €600 fines – with Madrid and Barcelona ordered to pay €180 and €90 respectively. And both clubs have 10 days in which to appeal the decision.

Tempers flared late on in the second-leg match, which Pep Guardiola’s men won 3-2 on the night to clinch a 5-4 aggregate victory.

A dangerous tackle by Real Madrid’s Marcelo on Barcelona debutant Cesc Fàbregas just a few feet away from the technical area sparked the ugly scenes at the Nou Camp.

Marcelo was sent off, and David Villa and Mesut Ozil were both shown red cards despite having already been substituted.

Mourinho’s Real Madrid are currently third, one point behind La Liga pace-setters and defending champions Barcelona in the Primera División table.
