Mo Farah named European Athlete of the Year
Mo Farah's performances at the World Championships earn him prestigious European award
Great Britain’s Mo Farah has been named European Athlete of the Year following his double medal success at the recent World Championships in Daegu.
Double European champion Farah won 10,000m silver and then struck 5,000m gold in Korea ““ becoming the first European athlete since Dieter Baumann in 1992 to win a global title at the distance.
In addition won the European indoor 3,000m title and broke the European indoor 5,000m record.
He also ran a 10,000m European record at the Diamond League meeting in Eugene and moved to second on the all-time continental list for 5,000m.
Farah is the sixth UK athlete to win the men’s award since 1993 while Dai Greene, the world 400m hurdles champion, ranked third of the 12 nominated athletes.
