Chelsea players have total faith in Villas-Boas, insists Mata
Juan Mata insists the Chelsea squad has always been fully behind André Villas-Boas, despite their recent poor run of form
Juan Mata insists manager André Villas-Boas has the full backing of the Chelsea squad.
Mata smashed home Chelsea’s third goal as the Blues returned to winning ways after back-to-back defeats with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday at Stamford Bridge.
The win relieved some of the pressure that was growing on Villas-Boas following a miserable run of three defeats in five games – but Mata insists Chelsea’s 34-year-old Portuguese manager has always had the support of the players.
“It’s never easy to have such negative results, but we all have a lot of faith in ourselves as a team. We have a lot of faith in our coach and in the quality of the squad,” said the 23-year-old.
“We had a team meeting last week simply to reiterate that we are all together and that we are heading in the same direction and we showed that against Wolves.
“The group has always been very united, and we have always been sure that the secret in enjoying more success as we go forward, in getting out of this moment, has been to stay strong and stay together.”
