Dani Alves has vowed Barcelona will fight to retain their La Liga crown until the very end, despite falling further behind rivals Real Madrid.

Pep Guardiola’s side slumped to a 1-0 defeat by Getafe on Saturday, their first loss in the league this season, leaving them six points adrift of Jose Mourinho’s side.

Defender Alves insisted Real can still be caught – but admits the defending champions cannot afford to drop any more points.

“There is still time and the club never gives up,” he said. “We’re in a silly phase away from home, but being positive, it is luckily happening now and not in the end.”

And the Brazil international is looking forward to the first league meeting between Barça and Real at the Bernabéu on 10 December.

“The game at the Bernabéu is always important, different and special,” he added. “So we will take with the utmost confidence in the team.

“Let’s go with the same personality as usual. We have our philosophy and we must die for it.”

Mourinho’s side effortlessly disposed of city rivals Atletico Madrid 4-1, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring twice and now leading the way for the illustrious Pichichi award with 16 goals.
