Yaya Touré has declared he is ready to “make history” with Manchester City during his second season at the club.

Roberto Mancini’s men have made a flying start to the new campaign, setting the pace in the Premier League and moving to within one win of qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League.

And the 28-year-old Ivory Coast midfielder, who has netted three times in City’s last two games, believes the Manchester outfit are much improved from last season.

“I think about making history with City,” said Touré. “It is already a different contest to last year when I joined because we have the quality players who have come in now ““ Samir Nasri, Sergio Aguero and the other fantastic players.

“Winning the Premier League would be amazing for the fans ““ for the club ““ because it would be the first time. When City won the FA Cup, they did something to change the club.”

Touré believes City are making good use of the wealth of talent at their disposal by giving all of their players the chance to shine via different competitions.

“We have more than one team now,” he continued. “We have got two teams. If you see [the side put out at] Wolves in the Carling Cup, people said it was the second team. For me, it is not the second team because everybody is good enough to play and everybody is doing fantastic.

“When you see the team that played against Wolves in the Carling Cup, they won 5-2. The team that played against Wolves in the Premier League at the Etihad won 3-1, but it was difficult.

“We have got two teams that can both play in the Champions League. We have got a fantastic squad and fantastic players, everybody is improving. For me, it is amazing.”

But although he is optimistic about City’s future, Touré, who joined City from Barcelona in 2010, admits the Premier League side have a long way to go if they are to emulate the success of his former employers.

“At the moment, I think we are far away from Barcelona because they are an amazing club with a fantastic squad,” he added. “Most of the best players in the world are already there, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique, Daniel Alves.

“To become like them, we have to win some cups. The comparison now with Barcelona, Manchester is the lower end. We will continue to work hard to become like them.”
