Arsenal’s Theo Walcott: We must focus on ourselves – not our rivals

Arsenal forward Theo Walcott calls on Gunners to focus on grinding out results instead of other sides' performances

Theo Walcott believes Arsenal must focus on improving their own results rather then “worrying” about the form of the teams around them in the league table.

The Gunners failed to capitalise after Chelsea and Manchester City were both held to draws on Boxing Day as Arsène Wenger’s men drew 1-1 with a battling Wolves at Emirates Stadium a day later.

Arsenal currently trail fourth-placed Chelsea by a point, but the 22-year-old forward insists the Gunners should only be thinking about the visit of Queens Park Rangers on new year’s eve – and not results elsewhere.

“I think we don’t have to really worry about anyone else,” Walcott told Arsenal Player. “We need to start thinking about every game. I think maybe we are thinking too much ahead and maybe we’re maybe thinking too much about Tottenham potentially finishing about us. Hopefully we can make sure that doesn’t happen but I think we need to take it game by game.

“I think that’s our problem at the moment: we’re worrying about teams dropping points when we should just be concentrating on ourselves.”

Walcott also admitted the now likely return of Thierry Henry on a short-term loan deal will give the Gunners a big boost in the second half of the season.

“He still looks very sharp – a great finisher as always,” he continued. “He’s a good leader around the dressing room. He’ll be very good for the young boys coming through – and he’s another option as well.”
