Boxing weekend prediction: Amir Khan to beat Lamont Peterson

We highlight the fights to watch this weekend and bring you our prediction for Amir Khan v Lamont Peterson

By Mike Pope

Prediction: Khan to beat Peterson by late technical knockout

Amir Khan, the best light welterweight in the world, defends his IBF and WBA titles in Lamont Peterson’s home town of Washington DC on Saturday night. Peterson is a tough and proven contender, his ability to apply pressure and dictate the tempo on the inside will mean he will cause Khan problems. However, Khan is too fast and too strong to be stopped by anyone in the 140-pound division right now. Expect the champion to dominate the early rounds with his excellent jab and footwork. As the fight progresses, Khan will land more frequently with his right hand and with shots to the body on the inside. Peterson will cause problems, especially if he manages to prevent Khan from fighting from distance. Yet in the final rounds of the fight Khan will pin Peterson against the ropes and unleash flurry upon flurry without any response from the Washington native, eventually forcing the referee to stop the fight.
