Chelsea expect John Terry to be fit for Tottenham Hotspur showdown
John Terry should be available for Chelsea's clash with Tottenham Hotspur this week despite limping out of training on Monday
Chelsea have moved to play down the seriousness of the injury suffered by captain John Terry in training on Monday, insisting that the centre-half will be fit for Thursday’s London derby clash with Tottenham Hotspur.
Terry was taking part in an open training session at Stamford Bridge on Monday when he went down with what appeared to be a right ankle problem after blocking a shot in a practice match.
But Chelsea released a statement confirming that the Blues skipper should still be fit to face Spurs at White Hart Lane on Thursday.
An update posted on Chelsea’s website read: “The defender pinched his Achilles while blocking a shot on the pitch towards the end of the session, and departed for treatment as a precaution, but is expected to lead the side out as normal at White Hart Lane on Thursday night.”
Chelsea are nine points behind league leaders Manchester City after stuttering to a 1-1 draw at Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
