Edinson Cavani is targeting a famous victory over Chelsea in the Champions League last 16 to help Napoli reach the last eight of the competition for the first time in the club’s history.

The Uruguay striker scored five goals in Europe this season as the Italian side finished ahead of Roberto Mancini’s Manchester City in Group A.

And Cavani, who has been linked with a transfer to Eastlands of late, says Napoli are focused on beating the Blues and sealing their place in quarter-finals.

“Our aims are to go through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League and to climb up the league table,” Cavani said.

The 24-year-old went on to speak of his experience in Europe so far this term, including thrilling victories over City and Villarreal at the Stadio San Paolo.

“There have been lots of wonderful moments,” he said. “There was the match in Manchester and then the home game against Man City as well.

“There was the experience of playing Bayern away and even though we lost it we played at a very high level. There have been lots of great games that we have to put behind us now so that we can concentrate on what lies ahead.”

Cavani admits Napoli, who are currently trailing Serie A pacesetters AC Milan by 10 points, have struggled to compete on two fronts this season.

“You always have to take things as they come and enjoy them as best you can. We could have done better but we could have done worse too.

“The good thing is that we’ve given our all in the last few months and we can go into the holidays relaxed to recover our energy.”
