Liverpool and Luis Suárez charged by The FA over Fulham incidents
Luis Suárez charged with improper conduct for alleged obscene gesture and Liverpool charged for failing to control their players
The Football Association has charged Luis Suárez with improper conduct and Liverpool with failing to control their players during Monday’s defeat at Fulham.
Suárez’s charge relates to an alleged obscene gesture directed at Fulham supporters after the final whistle following the Reds’ 1-0 loss to Martin Jol’s side in west London.
Liverpool’s charge is for failing to control their players in the immediate aftermath of Jay Spearing’s sending off in the second half at Craven Cottage.
A number of Liverpool players surrounded referee Kevin Friend following his decision to dismiss the 23-year-old for a challenge on Fulham’s Moussa Dembele in the 72nd minute.
An FA statement read: “Luis Suárez has also been charged following an incident in the game. The Liverpool player is charged with improper conduct, in relation to an alleged gesture made towards the Fulham fans at the end of the fixture.”
Both Liverpool and Suárez have until 4pm on Monday to respond to the charges.
Liverpool released a short statement on their website in reaction to the news. It read: “Liverpool FC today received notification from the Football Association of their decision to charge both the club and Luis Suárez following the game against Fulham.
“The club will take the appropriate time to properly review the documentation sent to us before making any further comment.”
