London 2012: New Year Honours for Olympic organisers

John Armitt and Charles Allen are among a number of sports administrators recognised in the Queen's New Year's Honours list

Two leading London 2012 organisers have been awarded knighthoods in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list.

John Armitt, the chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority and Charles Allen, who was responsible for the delivery of the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester and sits on Locog’s board with a brief for nations and regions, were among a number of sports administrators recognised.

Former Aston Villa chairman Doug Ellis is also awarded a knighthood while former British Triathlon president and ITU honorary member Sarah Springman and Giles Clarke, chair of the England and Wales Cricket Board, receive CBEs.
