Luis Suárez ’emotional and very grateful’ for Liverpool support
Kenny Dalglish says Luis Suárez was "very grateful" after the Liverpool squad voiced and displayed their support for the striker
Kenny Dalglish has revealed that Liverpool striker Luis Suárez was “emotional and very grateful” for the support of his team-mates after a difficult week.
Suárez was handed an eight-game ban and a £40,000 fine by the Football Association after the 24-year-old was charged for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.
The Liverpool squad released a statement backing the striker in the wake of the news and wore t-shirts supporting Suárez in the pre-match warm-up at Wigan Athletic on Wednesday.
“He was quite emotional and very grateful,” said Dalglish. “I don’t think it’s ever a disappointment when your team-mates and the people you work for give you their undivided support. For me, that’s the least he deserves.”
Liverpool issued a statement in reaction to the ban on Tuesday and Dalglish doesn’t expect the club to make any further comment until they receive documentation from the FA outlining the decision.
“Until everybody gets it and knows the reasons behind the things, I think most people have said what they want to say,” said Dalglish.
“We’ve certainly said what we have to say. We’ll wait until we get the judgement and take it from there.
“The club have issued a statement, the players have made their statement both visually and verbally. It’s best for everybody to wait and see what the written retort is because nobody knows – we don’t even know.”
