Man United will go for the win in Basel, insists Ashley Young
Ashley Young insists Manchester United approach their crunch Champions League clash at Basel with an attacking mentality
Ashley Young is sure that Manchester United will look to attack Basel in their crucial Champions League tie on Wednesday.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have been inconsistent in this season’s group stage, stumbling to two draws against Benfica and being held by Basel at Old Trafford. Their only wins have come against Group C whipping boys Otelul Galati.
As a result, last season’s runners-up need a least a point in Switzerland to progress to the knockout stages – but Young insists United will go for a win in their final game rather than play for a draw.
“It would be dangerous to think we only need a draw, no one at this club has that mentality,” he said. “We still have it in our hands to go there and qualify, which was the main target and we will be trying to win.”
Young, who joined United from Aston Villa in the summer, is confident he can be a success at the club and big games, such as Wednesday’s tie, are one of the reasons why he moved to Old Trafford.
“They don’t come much bigger than Manchester United,” he said. “I have always had confidence in my own ability and the club had enough confidence to sign me.”
