You should be very thankful indeed – the Tipster has dragged himself away from a delicious Christmas lunch to bring you a selection of bets set to make a football-filled Boxing Day very lucrative. Wayne Rooney is in ominous form and our man-in-the-know is backing the England striker to fire his side to victory against Wigan.

Elsewhere, our resident betting expert expects Liverpool and Manchester City to stuff Blackburn Rovers and West Bromich Albion, while Robin van Persie is sure to have stayed away from the turkey to ensure he’s in tip-top condition to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record of 36 in a calendar year.

Wayne Rooney to score at any time against Wigan – 8/15

Wayne Rooney has scored 13 league goals in just 16 appearances this season – and the 26-year-old has hit the back of the net in his last three games. The England international’s goals have come in patches this season and the former Everton forward is currently in great form. With United desperate to keep in touch with Manchester City over the Christmas period, Rooney will be the key player against Wigan – and the Tipster is backing the striker to score at a very tempting 8/15.
Bet365 odds

Manchester United to win to nil against Wigan – 8/11

United’s defence has recovered after the Red Devils were dumped out of both the Carling Cup and Champions League after a difficult eight days. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have not conceded in their last two league games with Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling all helping to fill the void left by the injured Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. Roberto Martinez’s Wigan will be looking to contain the champions for as long as possible on Monday and are unlikely to flood forward – so United to win to nil looks a solid bet at 8/11.
Bet365 odds

Man City to win by two goals or more against West Brom – 8/11

West Bromich Albion have been in good form of late with away victories at Blackburn and Newcastle – but Roy Hodgson will be fearful of a City side that has already romped to comprehensive victories at White Hart Lane and Old Trafford on their travels this term. City will want to stay top of the league heading into 2012 – and Roberto Mancini’s side to enjoy a comfortable victory at West Brom looks good value in this one at 8/11.
Bet365 odds

Liverpool to win by two goals or more against Blackburn – 8/13

Things have been tough for Liverpool and Blackburn of late but Kenny Dalglish’s side will be looking for a strong home performance against the basement club, who appear completely shot of confidence following last week’s defeat by Bolton. The Reds also desperately need to improve their form at Anfield after only winning one of their last five league matches at home – and the Tipster is backing Liverpool to beat Blackburn by at least two goals at 8/13.
Bet365 odds

The long shot: Robin van Persie to score three or more against Wolves – 11/2

Robin van Persie is only three goals shy of breaking Alan Shearer’s record of 36 Premier League goals in a calendar year. The Dutch striker is in lethal form after having scored 15 goals in just 13 appearances, including a hat-trick against Chelsea – and the 28-year-old has just two more league games in which to reach Shearer’s tally. Although Van Persie insists personal milestones are less important than the team’s performance, he remains Arsenal’s source of inspiration. With Wolves short of confidence and without a win in their last three games, the Tipster’s audacious effort for this instalment is for Robin van Perise to score three or more goals against Wolves at 11/2.
