Man United’s Nemanja Vidić out for the season with knee injury
Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidić will not play again this season after suffering a knee injury in Wednesday's defeat in Basel
Nemanja Vidić has been ruled out of the rest of the season after suffering a ruptured cruciate ligament during Manchester United’s defeat in Basel.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed the news during his weekly media briefing on Friday. “It’s not unexpected but it’s still bad news,” he said.
“We thought it was a bad one and unfortunately he’s out for the season. He sees the specialist on Monday to work out the progress of when he has his operation. It won’t be immediately as we have to let the swelling come down. It’s a blow.”
The 30-year-old defender was carried off on a stretcher during Wednesday’s Champions League game in Switzerland after twisting his knee.
Vidić’s agent revealed that the United captain had suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament on Thursday before Ferguson confirmed the severity of the injury.
