QPR 0 Man United 2: Loftus Road display pleases Sir Alex Ferguson
Sir Alex Ferguson hailed his side's commanding performance after Manchester United left Loftus Road with all three points
Sir Alex Ferguson hailed a “good team performance” after Manchester United eased past Queens Park Rangers to move ahead of Manchester City and reclaim the Premier League top spot on Sunday.
Wayne Rooney nodded United into the lead after less than a minute at Loftus Road, before Michael Carrick fired home his first goal in 70 United appearances following a buccaneering run 10 minutes into the second half.
And although United boss Ferguson admits his side could have added gloss to what was a comfortable victory in west London, he was happy with the defending champions’ display.
“We should have put the game to bed after about half an hour,” said Ferguson after the game. “It was a good team performance; we played some good football and will take a 2-0 win away from home.
“We have been a bit sparse in terms of goals scored recently but we won 4-1 last week and scored two today, some would say we should have scored more.
“I think [Carrick’s goal] put the game to bed and he did fantastically well. He’s been at the top of his game now Michael, I’m really pleased with his performances and he gave us that control in the middle of the pitch with Phil Jones.”
Meanwhile, goalscorer Carrick described the victory as a “big three points” for the Red Devils, who moved a point clear of derby rivals City in the table before Roberto Mancini’s clash with Arsenal later on Sunday.
“It was important we got the second goal, their ‘keeper made some fantastic saves and we knew we needed the second to give us a cushion,” he told Sky Sports. “It’s a big three points.”
And Rooney, who netted his 15th goal of the season at Loftus Road, added: “Their ‘keeper made a lot of good saves but we’re thankful for a 2-0 win, it’s what we came here to do.
“It was a great ball by Antonio [Valencia] and as a forward you try to put yourself in position and thankfully I got a good connection.”
